Catch-up Time
It has been roughly 9 months since I've ridden (myself) last. I did purchase a brand new hybrid from our LBS (local bike shop) for my wife as a birthday gift early in the summer and we did go riding a few times together). It has been a bit off this year simply because we had another child and as such have been spending all of our time helping one another out, and having lots of family time.
This lapse in riding has caused an increase in my mass and girth. I'm glad to say though that I hopped back on the saddle again yesterday with rode for 45 minutes solid through the hills near where I reside. Due to the considerable amount of steep climbs, I only traversed 15.3 km in distance. Had this been flat ground, or moderate hills the result would have been different (time-wise). I did however peak at a maximum of 73.1 km/h (>45.3 mph) whilst pedalling on a downhill section. This was all on the 24 year old Schwinn Sprint I rebuilt last year and had featured on the Old Ten Speed Gallery.
While I won't be riding daily like I used to, I will be riding as least one day every weekend, though hopefully that'll work out to be two. In the mean time, aside from looking for a riding partner for the longer and more arduous rides, I will be rebuilding my newest project bike. I recently acquired (again through freecycle) a 1984 Raleigh Record with a 502 cromoly xl frame, with SunTour kit and a Trek saddle. The tyres are in great condition, though I will most likely replace the actual tubes to be safe. The wheels will most likely be replaced as well as the rear cartridge with something a bit more modern. I will be submitting it as well to the old ten speed gallery for inclusion as well.
More updates to come.
